Tongue Tie Assessment

A tongue tie assessment is painless for the baby but may involve some tongue positions that are uncomfortable. The assessment does not last long and babies are usually happy throughout.

An assessment uses a detailed scoring system that looks at tongue function and movement plus elasticity and positioning of the frenulum. The need for frenulotomy cannot be assessed on tongue appearance alone and tongue function must be assessed in conjunction.

Claire is unable to perform a frenulotomy if one is needed but can refer you on and give advice on what to expect with this procedure.

If you have any questions regarding infant feeding or tongue tie assessment, please contact Claire for a free 15 minute phone consultation via the website contact form.
